Lab Notes // 01
Hi, let us introduce ourselves! We are Reana and Jeri, two sisters and founders of Quinn Parfums-A candle company that operates at the intersection of laboratory methodology and Olfactory design. Standard candle vessels are treated as single use disposables consisting of thin soda lime glass, painted opaque coatings, and heavy ceramic containers that are often discarded or destroyed by thermal stress once the candle wax burns out. At Quinn Parfums, we engineered our burn protocol around a fundamentally different material standard: 3.3 borosilicate laboratory glass.
Used natively in chemical laboratories for high temperature testing and medical grade measure, 3.3 borosilicate glass elevates both the performance of the burn and the long-term utility of the vessel. Here are just a few reasons why our vessels are the best!
01 // Exceptional Thermal Shock Resistance
The defining technical property of 3.3 borosilicate glass is its extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion (3.3 × 10⁻⁶ K⁻¹). Unlike standard commercial glass, which expands rapidly and can crack under flame exposure or localized hot spots, borosilicate glass handles extreme temperature differentials with zero structural fatigue.
This thermal stability ensures that as your candle burns down, the heat from the molten wax pool is evenly distributed without risking vessel fracture, providing a safer, more consistent burn environment for high density wax matrices like our Formula No. 2 Borosilicate Candle.
02 // Optical Clarity & Scent Purity
Heavy wall borosilicate glass is non-porous and completely inert. Standard candle glass often contains impurities or inner coatings that leach chemicals off-glasses when exposed to prolonged heat. Borosilicate glass maintains 100% material integrity, ensuring that the only aroma released into your space is the exact formulation of the fragrance itself.
Additionally, the crystal clear optical quality lets you view the flame mechanics and wax pool telemetry in real time, making it an ideal accent piece for minimal, concrete, or industrial interior environments.
03 // 100% Post-Burn Vessel Recovery
A vessel should never end up in a landfill. The true value of selecting lab grade glassware lies in its second life. Because borosilicate is non-porous, smooth, and thermal shock resistant, cleaning out remaining wax is seamless:
- Step 1: Pour warm, soapy water into the beaker once 1/2 inch of wax remains.
- Step 2: Wipe clean with a paper towel and remove the metal wick clip.
- Step 3: Wash by hand or place in a dishwasher.
Once cleared, the beaker is restored to a functional laboratory vessel. Repurpose it in your studio or home as:
- A specialized pour-over coffee vessel
- A botanical plant propagation container
- A minimalist desk tool or pen holder
The Future of Disciplined Design
Fragrance is temporary, but structural design should endure. By pairing high density coconut apricot wax with thermal 3.3 borosilicate glass, we eliminate vessel waste and create functional tools designed for modern, disciplined spaces.
